Artist Statement
My body of work is a mass merchandising company that offers customers quality products through a portfolio of exclusive brands. My projects extend over long periods of time, from 10 years to just a few days, and all are maintained in the present time to collect data. When we talk about our dedication to good design, we don’t just mean how something looks, but also how it satisfies a need, how it simplifies your life, and how it makes you feel. Each project looks at an identity and how that identity can be shaped. Each work is participatory and proves how ephemeral identity is. We have taken steps to build awareness of the importance of diversity to a point where diversity is considered “business as usual” – accepted and expected. Informing my work is research in the use of data-mining, surveillance, smart phones, love, and consumer club cards. The data I collect through performance and production is often presented in patterns referencing signs of replication and consumption. Our global sourcing policies prohibit the use of child or prison labor in the production of material we sell. I aim to maintain a decent level of mediocrity and to question consent, production processes, and presentation methods.
